Recently there have been some concerns in the media about eyelash extensions and their safety. The Lash Couture is proud to say that we always require licensed Cosmetologist or Estheticians upon or staff as well as Xtreme Lashes™ hands on training of their professional products. We highly recommend all of our technicians become armed to deal with inquiries they may receive about damage caused by eyelash extensions.
PROPERLY APPLIED eyelash extensions do not cause damage to natural lashes. Situations where damage has been or can be done to the natural lashes are typically caused by one of the following unfortunate scenarios:

UNQUALIFIED professionals who apply semi-permanent eyelash extensions.
Training to
properly isolate lashes is crucial to eyelash extension application. If natural lashes are
adhered together they will cause pain & discomfort as well as damage when faster
growing lashes pull out slower growing lashes along with them. Above you can see an
example of a client who had lashes applied by an untrained technician and to the right
of it is the ‘After’ work that was completed by a trained Xtreme Lashes™ Lash Stylist.
FLARES AND ‘INDIVIDUAL’ CLUSTER LASHES applied as shortcuts. Applying lashes in bundles will take significantly less time to achieve a full look rather than a single lash by lash application. However this is an unhealthy method for natural lashes. These bundled lashes are far too heavy for a single natural lash to support. If applied to one natural lash they can break the natural lash and inhibit future re-growth. Alternately, if they are applied to multiple natural lashes to properly support their heavy weight, multiple natural lashes will be adhered together. This can result in permanent damage and lash baldness if done repeatedly. These should never be applied with semi-permanent adhesive to natural lashes!

CARELESS ADHESION - leading to 3-4 human lashes being clumped together. Again, this comes down to training and quality. Lashes applied properly should be adhered one by one. One small synthetic lash is attached to one natural lash. If several natural lashes are adhered together because the technician has not been trained to isolate a single natural lash or is being too quick or too careless to do so, it can cause pain and, in the end, damage to the natural lashes. The pain will be felt a day or two after application, as faster growing natural lashes begin to pull out a slower growing natural lash it is adhered to. While not significant pain (it can be equated to a small pin pricking sensation along the lash line), it is a sign that something was done incorrectly during the application. Properly applied eyelash extensions should be seen but not felt. There should be no discomfort during or after application. Both of the examples demonstrated in the photos above show the effect of many lashes being adhered together. Two single lashes adhered together may not be initially visible to you, but a trained stylist or technician will notice. Trained professionals not only isolate a single lash as they apply, but constantly check throughout the application to ensure that no lashes are adhering together as they dry.
HERE ARE SOME PERFECT EXAMPLES OF UNSANITARY AND UNSAFE EYELASH EXTENSION TECHNIQUES.

First of all, it’s not very professional to use the clients head as a work station. Just with clients moving, talking, coughing and sneezing that jade can fall on her eye, nose, or hair.
Secondly, the clients eyes are open and have no protection from glue or an accidental eyelash to drop into the eyes.
And most important of all, we all carry germs and bacteria under our nail bed; she is using her fingertips to pull up on the eyelid to isolate the lashes to adhere synthetic ones onto. With the eyes exposed there may be a risk of getting the glue into the client’s eyes. The client may also be able to feel the fumes from the glue and possibly tear up leading to moisture in the lashes and causing the bond to not dry properly. Thus causing the bond to break down and leading the synthetic lashes to slip off the natural lash. Properly applied, the synthetic lashes should fall off with your natural lash and not any other way.
